Darrington, Washington

Darrington, Washington, is a small town nestled in the North Cascades with a population of just over a thousand residents. It offers visitors a charming, close-knit community vibe with the scenic backdrop of Whitehorse Mountain. Darrington is known for its breathtaking natural surroundings, outdoor recreational opportunities, and a rich logging history.

Here's a little more info, just to get started.

Geography and Climate Darrington is located on the plain formed between the North Fork Stilliguamish River and the Sauk River, along the western slopes of the North Cascade mountains, and the climate is more representative of a mountain town than other locations within the greater Puget Sound region. Darrington averages over 150 rainy days per year, most of which occurs between fall and late spring, with approximately 10 to 15 days of snow each year. Summers are mild and dry, with average high temperatures of 77.5°F (25.3 °C) and 1.43 inches (36mm) of precipication during July, typically Darrington's warmest and dryest month.

Outdoor Activities Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to Darrington for activities such as hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and camping. The town serves as a gateway to the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, which provides plenty of trails and wilderness areas to explore. Nearby is the Sauk River, known for its whitewater rafting and kayaking.

Dining and Lodging Darrington has a few popular local dining establishments, a grocery store, a convenience store, and a couple of coffee stands. The next nearest options are available approximately 30 miles away in Arlington, so you'll probably want to both frequent the local establishments and also plan ahead if you are staying in the area for more than a few days. There are a similarly limited number of local options for lodging, including a motor inn, short-term vacation rentals, rustic cabins and several nearby campgrounds, as well as an off-grid fire lookout operated as an AirBnB by Friends of North Mountain. Summer is a particularly busy time, so be sure to plan well ahead.
